GWA speaks on gender issues at Water Day 2009 in Barcelona

GWA Executive Director Joke Muylwijk attended the Water Day in Barcelona on 3rd November 2009, held alongside the UN Climate Change negotiations. The day was being convened by the Global Public Policy Network on Water Management (GPPN) - a partnership of Stakeholder Forum and Stockholm International Water Institute – in collaboration with UN Water.

The day set out to show that water is a critical and cross-cutting concern for climate change adaptation and mitigation. There were six sessions which focused on climate change and a range of water-related issues: Water and Livelihoods; Water, Ecosystems and Forests; Water and Land; Water and Regional/transboundary cooperation; Water and Land; Water and Gender; Water and Energy.

The GPPN in the run up to the UNFCCC negotiations in Copenhagen have also produced a response to Non-Paper 53 (used as the basis for the start of negotiations in the Copenhagen meeting). To download the pdf of the GPPN response please click here

Ms. Joke Muylwijk made a 2 minute contribution to the panel on Water and Gender highlighting their relevance to Climate Change issues.
