The Development Gateway focusses its resources in three areas where even small investments in information and communications technology (ICT) can make a major difference:

• Effective government – enabling better aid management and coordination, and more efficient and transparent government procurement.
• Knowledge sharing and collaboration – leveraging the Internet for online communications among development practitioners worldwide.
• Local partner programs in nearly 50 countries – connecting developing country organizations into their mission and helping empower them to use ICT to scale up local development efforts.

The portal addresses multiple issues through knowledge gateways called dgCommunities which are subscribed to by thousands of members worldwide. dgCommunities is managed by the Development Gateway Foundation (www.dgfoundation.org )and provides a collaborative space for professionals working to reduce poverty and promote sustainable development worldwide. Each online community is centered on specific themes (www.topics.developmentgateway.org) and guided by experts in the field. Information resource links are included, and knowledge, tools, and contacts shared with members in 200 countries.
